Christy Characters

These individuals all create a well crafted series. A brief summary of the characters and their way of life is displayed below.

Christy Huddleston

Christy leaves Asheville, NC to teach in an impoverished Tennessee cove, that initially refuses her help. She nearly gives up but is provided with faith and guidance from God to make a difference among the community.

Preacher David Grantland

David arrived to the cove before Christy. He’s a determined young man that wants to preach the word of God. He’s tested by the people of his commitment to God. In time he develops a loving affection towards Christy.

Dr. Neil MacNeill

A doctor with a Scottish background. As an atheist he tests Christy’s trust in God and explains the way she approaches teaching schoolchildren is wrong. Like David, he eventually develops a loving affection towards Christy.

Ruby Mae Morrison

Ruby Mae is one of the older children in the cove. She is a boarder at the mission that does several chores for the mission. Possum stew, you name it. Her mentor is Christy but she can often be a gentle thorn in your side.

Fairlight Spencer

Fairlight’s is determined to have her children in school, even against her own community. She’s eventually becomes an ally and friend with Christy.

Miss Alice Henderson

Alice is the leader of the mission among Christy and David. She’s the glue that binds the peace and strength of the cove. A type of guidance counselor, at every essence of the word.

Daniel Scott

Daniel is the son of a minister but was also a mentor to Alice. At the height of the Ku Klux Klan, Daniel Scott leaves Freedom Kentucky. He travels with Christy and Alice back to Cutter Gap to work in return for an apprenticeship with Dr. MacNeill.
